So That Was Pretty Fun
Faith and Fear in Flushing
Back when the Mets were famous for never having had a pitcher throw a no-hitter, I had a weird fear that I’d try to keep to myself, because it sounded snooty and entitled: When this strange drought finally ended, I just hoped it wasn’t with a combined no-hitter, because combined no-hitters are lame.
Johan Santana ended the long fallow period in 2012, and the Mets just threw a combined no-hitter against the Phillies. And I’m glad to report it didn’t feel lame at all. In fact, it was pretty fun.
